天皇皇后両陛下、東北地方の被災地を訪問

Emperor, empress visit disaster-hit Miyagi area
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko paid their first visit to northeastern Japan on Wednesday since the March 11 mega earthquake and tsunami devastated the Tohoku region. The couple arrived at a Self-Defense Forces base in Higashimatsushima in Miyagi Prefecture from Tokyo’s Haneda airport aboard an SDF airplane.

The emperor and empress plan to visit shelters in Sendai and Minamisanriku and view tsunami-ravaged coastline areas from the air before returning to the capital later Wednesday, according to the Imperial Household Agency.

The imperial couple will also visit Iwate Prefecture on Monday and Fukushima Prefecture on May 11, two other areas in northeastern Japan hit hard by the twin disasters, the agency said.

「天皇皇后両陛下は水曜日、３月１１日の巨大地震と津波によって東北地方が壊滅的被害を受けて以来初めて、東北地方の被災地を訪れた。両陛下は自衛隊機で羽田空港を出発、宮城県東松島市の航空自衛隊基地に到着。

両陛下は仙台と南三陸町の避難所の訪問と、自衛隊機で上空から津波の被害を受けた沿岸部地域を視察する予定だと宮内庁は伝えている。

また両陛下は月曜日には岩手県を、そして５月１１日には福島県を訪れる予定だが、この東北地方の両県も大地震と津波によって大きな被害を受けた地域である。

※東日本大震災発生後、精力的に被災地や避難所を訪れ、被災者を励まされてこられた天皇皇后両陛下ですが、訪問を受けた被災者たちは両陛下の励ましの言葉に随分と勇気づけられたようです。
第二次大戦後は、昭和天皇が日本全国を回って日本国民を励まされましたが、天皇皇后両陛下の今回の被災地への訪問はそれ以来ではないでしょうか。
