ソフトウエア世界最大手のマイクロソフト社と車両メーカーの巨人であるトヨタがIT分野で提携するというニュースが発表されました。
この２つの巨大産業が手を結ぶことにより、世界の経済に大きな影響を与えるのは間違いないでしょう。

Toyota, Microsoft to form IT alliance
Toyota Motor Corp and Microsoft Corp plan to form an alliance in the areas of vehicle information technology and next-generation energy under which Microsoft will invest in a Toyota subsidiary, the two companies announced Wednesday.
Under the tie-up, the two plan to participate in the 1 billion yen (approximately $12 million) investment in Toyota Media Service Co based in Nagoya city that offers digital information services for Toyota vehicles, they said.
Microsoft technology will be used in data systems of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that Toyota plans to release in 2012, allowing their drivers to easily check information on traffic jams and electricity left in these vehicles, according to the companies.
The envisioned infrastructure includes a ‘‘smart grid’’ next-generation electricity distribution system to improve energy efficiency through measures such as battery storage of electricity generated by solar and wind power, the companies said.
‘‘Today’s announcement of our partnership with TMC is a great example of how we continue to invest in the automotive industry and of our commitment to power the services that are important to consumers,’’ Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said in a statement, referring to Toyota by its initials.
‘‘This new partnership between Microsoft and Toyota is an important step in developing greater future mobility and energy management for consumers around the world,’’ Toyota President Akio Toyoda said in the statement.
‘‘Creating these more efficient, more environmentally advanced products will be our contribution to society,’’ Toyoda said.
