Softbank Corp. Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son is personally donating about $119 million (10 billion yen) to support victims of the disaster in Japan.
In a press release, Son said he would also donate the "whole of his remuneration as representative of the SoftBank Group to provide support to children orphaned by this disaster and the many other orphaned children."
In addition, the SoftBank Group is donating one billion yen for the recovery effort.
The donations will go through the Japan Red Cross Society, the Red Feather Community Chest Movement, and various other organizations, according to the press release.
SoftBank is a holding company, which one of the leading mobile phone companies in Japan. Son was also an early investor in Yahoo and other companies during the early days of the commercial Internet.
According to Forbes, Son is the wealthiest individual in Japan, with a net worth of $8.1 billion, and the 113th richest person in the world.
