According to a police report obtained by CBS Cleveland, the boy also threatened to kill school officials. Police say when they arrived, the child was kicking and screaming on the floor. He was then taken into custody .
Assistant principal Jessica Poe led the student to a police car where an officer placed him in the back seat, buckled him in and drove him to the police department, the report said. He was not handcuffed.
The child had recently come back to school after being suspended for hitting and biting a school official, CBS Cleveland reported.
"This was not an isolated incident," Shelbyville Police Lieutenant Michael Turner said.
"In the big picture ... I have to look at school safety and have to look at student safety," Lumbley said.
Lumbley said the district will take care of the child's education for the remainder of the school year.
"We hate this for Hendricks Elementary, hate this for Shelbyville, that this was the news and to be honest with you, I hate it for the family," Lumbley said. "I hate it for the family because they are nice people and they are really working and want what's best for the child."
Lt. Turner said he hoped the filing of juvenile charges would help get the child needed help.
"Putting him into the system can open up avenues perhaps the parents don't have," Turner said.

An assistant police inspector in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, put a police uniform up for auction on an Internet auction site, prefectural police say.
According to officials, the 44-year-old man put the uniform up for auction late last year and then removed it before a winning bid was registered, NTV reported. An anonymous source later informed the police of the man’s involvement and an investigation was launched.
Police say they are currently trying to establish how the man came into possession of the uniform, which is not his size, NTV reported.
A Yamanashi police spokesperson was quoted as saying, “There are privacy matters to be taken into consideration, so we will refrain from commenting at this time.”

A man forced his way into a love hotel in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, on Monday morning and stole several days’ worth of takings, amounting to over a million yen, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. at a hotel in Togane. A 43-year-old hotel employee told investigators that the man brandished what she believed to be a handgun as he ordered her to take the cash out of the register, NTV reported.
Police say the employee was not injured in the attack.

Police said the unemployed man, identified as Tadashi Shinohara, hit his father Jiro several times, during an altercation at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, Fuji TV reported. Shinohara turned himself in at a police station at about 9 a.m., accompanied by his 76-year-old mother.
The father suffered severe injuries, police said.
Shinohara was quoted by police as saying his father had angered him by entering his room without announcing himself for the past week, Fuji reported.

A 32-year-old teacher has been arrested for using a mirror to look up a high school girl’s skirt on an escalator at JR Ebina Station in Kanagawa Prefecture.
According to police, the suspect, identified as elementary school teacher Kazuteru Muramoto, 32, got behind a high school girl on the escalator at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sankei Shimbun reported. He allegedly lifted up the girl’s skirt and used a mirror from his pocket to have a peek.
A station security guard saw Muramoto and detained him on the spot, Sankei reported. Muramoto was quoted by police as saying that he didn’t actually look into the mirror.
